Tylar Campbell was born in Panama City Beach, Florida and raised in San Diego, California. He is a first-generation college student and the first in his family to pursue higher education. He has a passion for capturing stories through digital art and photography. He began taking courses at San Diego Miramar College in 2011, where he was introduced to public policy. He has personally experienced how policies like budget cuts can directly affect academic outcomes of students and their future opportunities. Understanding the connection between those affected by policy and the decision-makers, he decided to take an active role in this process and began participating civically on a platform of intersectional justice. After transferring to UCLA, where he received his B.A. in African American Studies, he served as a policy research fellow for The Campaign for College Opportunity where he worked on equity-based research and advocacy.
