More than half of California’s counties don’t provide online access to campaign finance records, and they say they aren’t likely to change any time soon, students found.

In coordination with The Los Angeles Times, students published a story about California’s varied election filing practices: “In California, varied election filing practices reveal a system struggling to catch up”

Students also produced an interactive data visualization (“Less than half of California counties put campaign finance filings online”) and explored campaign finance records in the Silicon Valley region (“Santa Clara County’s campaign finance records provide glimpse of Silicon Valley’s political landscape”).

The students’ stories were all published on Peninsula Press.
