Omar Ceesay

Omar Ceesay is a fourth-year medical student at the University of Nebraska and was recently selected as the 2026-2027 Stanford Global Health Media Fellow. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the same university. Omar was previously awarded a Stanford Neurosurgery Research Scholarship in 2024, where he contributed to multiple scientific publications. Outside the clinic, Omar is widely recognized for his Twin Doctor series on Instagram and other social media platforms, where he creates short-form medical education videos using humor and jargon-free storytelling to make complex health topics accessible to broad audiences. He is also a columnist for The Fatu Network and was featured by Omaha's First Alert 6 TV for helping lead a barbershop-based blood pressure screening initiative to address hypertension in historically underserved communities. Omar was originally recruited from The Gambia to pursue a professional soccer career in the United States. He played collegiate soccer in Nebraska and was named an NJCAA Academic All-American in 2017. His switch to medicine was related to the untimely death of his father from a preventable traumatic brain injury. At Stanford, he hopes to combine journalism and medicine to become a physician who not only cares for individual patients but also improves the health of millions through evidence-based storytelling.
