Laura Holson

Laura Holson is an award-winning writer and visual journalist who worked for The New York Times for 26 years, is a photographer, creativity advisor and teacher. She created and hosts The Box Sessions, an immersive creativity gathering. Laura chronicled the intersection of money and power in Hollywood and Silicon Valley for the Times, profiling people like George Clooney, Donald Trump Jr., Sean Parker, David Geffen, Marissa Mayer, Mark Zuckerberg, Steven Spielberg, Tom Ford and Joy Reid. She has written magazine cover profiles about Brad Pitt and movie making for Vanity Fair, and her experience with Covid-19 for The New York Times Magazine. She has appeared on ABC’s Nightline, CBS News and CNN and is a guest on radio shows and podcasts. She was awarded a National Magazine Award for public service reporting.

Laura is a gifted storyteller and keen observer of culture and human behavior. Nearly a decade ago, she started a creativity salon that became the foundation for The Box Sessions, which brings together film makers, musicians, writers, storytellers and artists. Arts and ideas have infused every aspect of Laura’s education. She has taught creativity at the Modern Elder Academy in Baja California. She completed her Master’s in Journalism at the University of Missouri in Columbia, and her Bachelor’s in Art History from the University of California in Santa Barbara. Laura was awarded a Knight-Wallace Fellowship where she studied filmmaking and voiceover at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 2013. She has been awarded writing residencies in Arles, France and Ferreira de Zezere, Portugal.
