Elizabeth Brewer

Elizabeth Brewer is a writer and editor from the Pacific Northwest. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in English from the University of Washington, she became features editor and associate editor of The Astorian, a small newspaper on the Columbia River and Oregon Coast, where she won awards from SPJ and ONPA as a feature writer and director of the magazine Our Coast. Prior to that, she was an editorial intern at GRAY, a Seattle-based architecture and design magazine, and a contributing editor of FieldNotes, a research journal within the University of Washington College of the Environment. Her writing, photographs, and illustrations have also appeared in The Oregonian, Trails Magazine, and the Washington Butterfly Association. Her work has been supported by the Orion Environmental Writers’ Workshop. At Stanford, she looks forward to working with the Bill Lane Center for the American West and exploring intersections of creative nonfiction, documentary photography, and environmental journalism.
